U-Shield Semi-Flex Powder

Semi-Flex is a thermoplastic powder coating formulated for surfaces that require a balance between structural rigidity and controlled flexibility. Designed for use with U-Coat Thermal Flame Spray systems, it performs reliably on steel, aluminum, fiberglass, and concrete substrates that experience moderate vibration, thermal cycling, or minor movement. Semi-Flex resists cracking and delamination under stress while maintaining strong adhesion and barrier protection against moisture, corrosion, and chemical exposure. It is well suited for infrastructure, transportation, and commercial applications where a fully rigid coating may be prone to fatigue over time.

U-Shield Tough Coat Powder

Tough Coat is U-Coat’s heavy-duty thermoplastic powder coating, engineered for maximum mechanical performance in the most demanding environments. Its formulation delivers exceptional resistance to impact, abrasion, and chemical exposure, making it the preferred choice for industrial and mining applications such as tanks, pumps, containment systems, and heavy equipment. Applied via U-Coat Flame Spray systems, Tough Coat bonds directly to steel and metal substrates without primer, forming a seamless, non-porous protective layer. The result is long-term durability with minimal maintenance — even under continuous physical wear or aggressive chemical contact.

U-Shield PolyFusion Powder

PolyFusion is a specialty thermoplastic powder coating optimized for superior substrate integration and bond strength. Its unique formulation promotes deep fusion with the substrate surface during the flame spray process, producing a void-free, seamless finish with outstanding adhesion. PolyFusion is particularly effective on concrete and steel substrates in applications where coating integrity is non-negotiable, including underground infrastructure, marine environments, potable water systems, and food-safe contact surfaces. Its non-toxic, FDA-compliant properties make it a reliable option wherever health and safety regulations apply.

Polymer Powder Quick Info

U‑Shield Polymer is a custom‑engineered thermoplastic powder designed to deliver strong, durable, and long‑lasting protection across a wide range of surfaces.

  • Barrier Properties: These coatings provide excellent barriers against vapors, liquids, and chemicals. They help protect the underlying surfaces from corrosion and damage.
  • Electrical Insulation: Thermal Flame Spray Coatings offer effective electrical insulation, making them ideal for applications where electrical conductivity needs to be minimized or eliminated.
  • Anti-Corrosion: These coatings possess anti-corrosive properties, shielding the coated surfaces from environmental factors that can lead to corrosion and degradation.
  • Flexibility: With their ability to stretch up to 500-800% without cracking or chipping, thermoplastic coatings offer exceptional flexibility. This property is particularly useful in applications where movement or expansion occurs.
  • Thicker Coatings: Compared to other coating methods, Thermal Flame Spray Coatings can achieve thicker coatings, ranging from 250-1000 microns. This allows for enhanced protection and durability.
  • Edge and Weld Coverage: The spraying process ensures excellent coverage even on complex shapes, edges, and welds, providing comprehensive protection against corrosion and other environmental factors.
  • Grip and Warmth: The thermoplastic coatings offer a tactile surface with improved grip and a warm feel. These properties can be advantageous in applications where users need a secure grip or increased comfort.
  • Impact Resistance: With their ability to withstand impact and deformation, thermoplastic coatings provide enhanced protection against physical damage, making them suitable for various industries.
  • Food Contact and Low Toxicity: Thermal Flame Spray Coatings comply with food contact regulations and are known for their low toxicity, making them safe for use in applications involving food processing and packaging.

U‑Shield Polymer is based on a modified polyolefin PE formulation and is engineered to coat:

  • Aluminum
  • Fiberglass
  • Steel and metals
    • Steel and metal substrates require no primer.
  • Concrete
    • Concrete applications utilize PolyRes503 high‑temperature primer to achieve maximum adhesion and barrier performance.

U‑Shield Polymer is applied using U‑Coat Thermal Flame Spray systems, creating a seamless, non‑porous coating. The resulting layer provides outstanding barrier protection against:

  • Vapors
  • Liquids
  • Chemicals up to 15 pH
  • Corrosion
  • Electrical insulation

U‑Shield Polymer offers exceptional flexibility, achieving 400–500% elongation without cracking or chipping, even under extreme conditions. The coating remains stable across a temperature range of ‑70°F to +155°F and provides excellent resistance to:

  • UV exposure –
  • Harsh weather conditions –
  • Salt spray Abrasion

The material also demonstrates excellent fire behavior, making it suitable for underground applications and enclosed tank environments.

U‑Shield Polymer can be applied with either a smooth, durable finish or an anti‑slip texture, certified to DIN 51130 standards.

Additional benefits include:

  • Long‑lasting, uniform color
  • Easy maintenance, repair, and retouching
  • 100% eco‑friendly formulation
  • Approved for contact with drinking water, food, and acetic acid
  • Anti‑stain and antibacterial properties through a specialized formulation

The coating is non‑porous and designed for long‑term performance in demanding environments.

U‑Shield Polymer demonstrates exceptional adhesion to prepared substrates. Pull‑off testing conducted at 500–1000 microns shows glue failure at 5.71–5.80 MPa, equivalent to approximately 1,000 lbs per square inch of pull strength, confirming strong bond integrity and durability.
